The Internet

The Internet uses operant conditioning because it is a form of positive reinforcement. Humans like the satisfaction of being connected, of being able to Google a random question that comes to mind. This reinforcement encourages people to use the Internet more frequently. Using the Internet daily changes your mind because, as Carr writes: "my mind now expects to take in information the way the Net distributes it: in a swiftly moving stream of particles. Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski." I really do agree with Carr's conclusions. I definitely feel that our ability to research random topics that come to mind on the Internet has greatly dulled out ability to stay focused.
