Born Rich

The kids in the film seem to be motivated by one of four forces: a desire for anonymity, a desire for material goods, a desire to please their family, or a desire to rebel. I suppose I share the desire for material goods, though not in the same sense as them. They seem to be more interested in clothing and fashion, in which I have absolutely no interest whatsoever. I suppose I am most like Luke Weill, in that I would strive for a certain level of anonymity and social acceptance, but would also want to leave my mark on the world. (I don't, however, think I would actually have sued Jamie Johnson.) Being "born rich" affected their motivation because they didn't really seem to have any. Maybe it's just me, but I think that these kids are so used to getting whatever they want whenever they want that they have never truly experienced the benefit of working toward a goal. In fact, they seem so focused on the present that it would seem that they are incapable of thinking about the future and what they want from it. If I were "born rich" like them, I would probably be devoid of motivation as well. When you work hard to become rich, it gives you an opportunity to plan out what you want to do with your life. But when you're born rich, you never are forced to strive for anything.
