Stress

The major causes of stress in my life are school and college. I have a ton of work every night. It is especially hard when teachers act like their class is the only one you are taking. I am also stressed out about college because my parents are really annoying and never stop talking about it, especially my dad. He always acts like I don't have any homework and the most important thing to do is work on college essays. One coping strategy I use is beating up my bed. It actually really helps. I just pretend that my bed is the thing that I am mad at, and I keep punching until I feel better.

Stress is dangerous to your health because it raises blood pressure, destroys the hippocampus, and suppresses the immune system. This can cause heart attacks, cancer, memory loss, and stomach ulcers. It also can speed up aging, which causes our chromosomes to fray. It can cause us to eat more, which in turn makes us fatter and less healthy. I think America leads the world in stress-related diseases because we are over-competitive. Colleges are looking for the kids who take the most advanced classes and have the most extra-curricular activities. Employers are looking for employees who can be responsible for many jobs at once and can get things done quickly. Our society glorifies stress and being overworked because "if your not willing to do it, someone else will."
