Psychology Careers

A. My three favorite psychology career fields are consumer psychology, developmental psychology, and neuropsychology. Consumer psychology deals with how people shop, what they shop for, and product placement. I think I would enjoy it because I think it would be interesting to see how product placement can cause people to buy something they don’t need or even know they want. Developmental psychology deals with how humans develop intellectually, emotionally, and socially as they grow older. It interests me because I find it interesting how our perception, needs, and desires change as we experience life. Neuropsychology deals with neurological disorders, memory, and concentration. I have always been fascinated with memory and concentration: how they work, and why we remember some things and not others (like why I remember the most insignificant things people say, but not the events of a movie).

B. I don’t think that I will major in psychology, but I might minor in it. The main reason is that there are many other things that I would like to major in, like computer science and mathematics, and to major in multiple things would be very difficult. But I have always been fascinated by the human brain and would like to study it biochemically as well as psychologically.

C. I think that psychology can also help us better understand ourselves. It can help us understand why we do what we do, why we think what we think, why we want what we want, etc. It can also help you understand other people better as well. If you can understand what is going on in their mind, then you can “put a method to the madness,” in a way.
